The Meadville Invitational Tournament opened for another year on Monday night, with the Linn County Mustangs winning a close girls game and a lopsided boys encounter on Night #1 of the annual event. The Linn County girls, seeded #5, pulled off the mild upset of Northwestern, winning 41-38. Madison Livingston paced Linn County with 12 points, while Kellie Speichinger had 12 for the Lady Eagles. The win sends Linn County into a 7 o’clock semifinal on Thursday night.
The Tina-Avalon Lady Dragons, behind 21 points from Hannah Colliver, downed the host Meadville Lady Eagles, 53-29, pushing T-A into a 4:30 semifinal on Thursday afternoon. Krysta Meyers paced Meadville with 15 points.
On the boys side, Linn County rebounded from Saturday night’s loss to Mercer with a resounding 69-35 triumph over Tina-Avalon. Jase White had 31 points on the Mustangs ledger, while the Northwestern boys rolled to an 80-61 win over Hale. Jaden Humphrey led the victorious Eagles with 24 points, while Jaeden Sears had 17 for the Cardinals.
The Northwestern boys will be in an 8:15 semifinal on Thursday, with the Linn County boys in a 5:45 semifinal on Thursday.
In quarterfinal action tonight (Tuesday night), the Mercer Lady Cardinals challenge the #2 seed Hale Lady Cardinals at 4:30. The winner will play Tina-Avalon in the semifinal round. The top seeded Grundy R-5 girls play Bucklin/Macon County at 7 o’clock, with the winner earning a spot opposite Linn County on Thursday.
The Mercer boys, seeded #3 in the Meadville Invitational, get a rematch with Grundy County at 5:45 this afternoon, just four nights over the Cardinals meet the Panthers in HDC Conference play at Mercer. Tonight’s winner will get Jase White and Linn County in the semifinal round, which could be a potential rematch for Mercer and Linn County, who played each other on Saturday.
The top boys seed, the host Meadville Eagles, will entertain Bucklin/Macon County at 8:15 tonight, with the Northwestern Eagles awaiting the survivor in the 8:15 semifinal on Thursday night.
