The Linn County Mustangs are continuing to show the look of one of the top Class 1 boy’s teams in the region, scoring 85 points on Thursday night in an 85-62 win over the host Northwestern Eagles, in the semifinal round of the 62nd annual Northwestern Tournament in Mendon.
The win advances the Mustangs into Saturday night’s title game, against the rival #1 seed Meadville Eagles, who played a much-more low-scoring semifinal in a 47-36 triumph over Brunswick. Meadville and Linn County will play in Mendon on Saturday night at 7:30, with Brunswick and Northwestern dueling in the third place game at 4:30.
In the girls semifinals, Meadville came up short against #1 seed Higbee, in a 63-42 loss that sends the Lady Eagles into tonight’s (Friday night’s) third place girls game with Northwestern, a 69-63 loser to the Hale Lady Cardinals on Thursday night. Higbee and Hale will match-up for the Northwestern girls championship on Saturday night at 6 o’clock.
In the Friday night consolation finals from Mendon, the Linn County Lady Mustangs play Bucklin/Macon County at 5:30, followed by the Hale boys battling Keytesville at 7 o’clock.
