The Milan Wildcats fought tooth and nail with the Scotland County Tigers on Tuesday night, only to fall in double overtime to the visitors from Memphis, 79-77, as Elijah Cooley hit a three-pointer late in the double overtime session to surge SCHS to the win.
Despite the loss, Milan may find lasting benefits from the game. Â In past years, if Wyatt Bohle struggled to score or found himself in foul trouble, Milan’s offense struggled. Â However, that was not the case on this night, as, with Bohle held to single digits, Hunter Shaw had 20 points, Mauricio Curiel 16, Ryan Dabney 15, and Connor Bankus 10 points for the Wildcats, now 3-2 on the season. Â Scotland County, fresh off a Novinger Tournament championship, improves to 4-1, as Cooley had 20 points, Grant Campbell 17, Aaron Buford 13 and Brett Monroe 13 points.
In the opener, an unbeaten, dynamite Scotland County girls squad defeated Milan for the second time within the week, both by decisive scores. Â Tuesday night’s final from “The Den” was Lady Tigers 75, Lady ‘Cats 22. Â Calisse Bair led #4 ranked (Class 2) Scotland County with 26 points, while Abi Finney had 12, and Chelsea Wood 10 points. Â The Lady Tigers are 5-0, while Milan slips to 2-3.
