The Princeton Lady Tigers rallied from a mid-game deficit of 4-2 at Trenton on Thursday night, exploding for seven runs in the top of the 5th inning, and adding three more in the 6th, in a 12-4 Grand River Conference victory at Mark Griffin Memorial Field, the Lady Tigers second win in three nights, extending the team’s season-high winning streak to three.
Just as in Tuesday night’s win over Milan, Trenton turned an early first-inning deficit into a quick lead, as the Lady Bulldogs scored three times in the bottom of the first to erase a 1-0 Tiger lead, with the teams trading single runs in the Princeton 2nd and Trenton 3rd innings.
Megan Spencer went five innings for Princeton, allowing eight hits and one run, of the earned variety, striking out seven. Lauren Krohn got the start and twirled two innings, allowing three runs and walking a pair, adding six strikeouts.
Princeton’s offense accumulated 15 hits off of Trenton’s pitching combination of Emma Roberts and Jenna Reeter, with Faith Siemer, Makenzie Dunkin and Grace Kelly leading the hit parade with three each. Kelly drove in three runs, while Jasmine Allen scored three times to lead Princeton. Of Kelly’s three hits, one was a key triple for a quickly improving young Princeton squad.
Trenton was paced by a 4-for-4 game offensively from shortstop Gracyn Rongey. Madi Moore was 2-for-4. Chandler Lynch and Maci Moore both scored runs, with Rongey adding two runs for THS.
Princeton won the JV game 10-0.
