The HDC Conference girls championship game is set, after #1 seed Mercer took a comfortable victory over Gilman City, while North Harrison survived an overtime duel with Grundy County, in Tuesday night’s semifinals at Winston High School.
The #2 seed from North Harrison beat the #3 seed, upset-minded Grundy R-5 Lady Panthers, 59-57. Â Payton Craig led the Lady Shamrocks with 27 points, while Briley McLain had 13, and Brandy Rivet 10 points. Â Grundy had 18 points from Matana Munday, 13 from Aubrey Gann, and 10 points from Morgan Axtell.
Next up for North Harrison is #1 ranked Mercer, after the Lady Cardinals dominated their semifinal with Gilman City, winning 84-35. Â Morgan Eastin had 20 points to lead Mercer, while Rayne Kost and Nicole Kost both had 16 points, and Bailey Owens 10. Â Hailey Burrows led the Ladyhawks with 23 points.
In the 7th place girls game, played on Tuesday night, the Newtown-Harris Lady Tigers, behind 22 points from Gabrielle Nielson, beat Tri-County 31-25. Â Makayla George had 12 points to pace the Lady Mustang attack.
The HDC Conference Tournament continues tonight (Wednesday night) from Winston, with the Newtown-Harris Tigers meeting the Tri-County Mustangs in the 7th place game at 4:30. Â The boy’s semifinals follow, with the Mercer Cardinals taking on the North Harrison Shamrocks at 6 o’clock, followed by the #1 ranked and unbeaten Winston Redbirds hosting the East Harrison Bobcats at 7:30.
