Lady Pirates ride momentum of 6-run 5th inning to Region XVI sweep of St. Charles

The North Central Missouri College softball team went into the bottom of the 5th inning of Friday afternoon’s game at St. Charles tied at 1-1. After scoring six runs in the 5th inning, the Lady Pirates rolled to a 7-1 victory, and followed up that effort with a 10-0 run-rule triumph in Game #2.

Allison Hilsabeck twirled a complete game six-hitter in the opener, improving to 10-5 on the season, giving up just a fourth-inning run.  For the NCMC offense, Jaclyn Weydert had a home run with two RBI’s and two runs scored, McKinley Hurley was 2-for-4 with three stolen bases, while Jessica Stupar was 2-for-3 with 2 RBI’s and a run scored.

The Lady Pirates hammered St. Charles in the nightcap, with two runs in the 1st and 2nd innings, a single tally in the 3rd, and a five spot in the 4th.  The game ended due to the ten-run rule after 4 1/2 innings.

Jessica Stupar pitched the first four innings and shut down St. Charles while only allowing two hits, improving to 6-4 on the spring.  Kelly Warford pitched a scoreless fifth for the Lady Pirates.  Hurley added two more steal and scored twice, with Bethany Jacobsen adding a pair of runs.  Georgia Gibler cracked a home run, with Jaclyn Weydert and Amber Austin adding doubles.

The Lady Pirates continue their busy stretch of softball doubleheaders this (Saturday) afternoon, hosting Crowder College at 2 o’clock.  NCMC plays at St. Charles on Sunday afternoon at 2 o’clock, before traveling to Westminster College in Fulton to play Three Rivers in a neutral-site doubleheader, Monday afternoon at 1 o’clock.
