In a hotly contested Saturday matchup from the Ketcham Community Center, the 9th-ranked North Central Missouri College Lady Pirates secured victory against the Allen County Community College Red Devils, rallying for a 59-43 triumph.Â
NCMC extends its record to 11-2 and prepares for an upcoming road matchup on Tuesday night in Quincy, Illinois against John Wood CC. The Lady Pirates will be aiming to sweep the season series after downing the Trailblazers 80-57 last month.
Despite facing an early deficit and trailing by four points at halftime, NCMC showcased resilience and determination to clinch the victory. Mary Copeland emerged as the standout performer for the Lady Pirates, leading the scoring with an impressive 21 points. Copeland shot 7-of-12 from the field, and contributed significantly on the boards with 9 rebounds.Â
The supporting cast for NCMC also made noteworthy contributions, with freshmen guards Gladys Brown and LaKorria Brown combining for 19 points off the bench. Bailey Fleming contributed 5 points while making solid defensive efforts.
The team displayed impressive defensive tenacity, holding Allen County to a mere 28.0% shooting from the field. NCMC’s defensive unit, led by strong performances from Nateonia Russell and Jessica Reeter, limited the opposition’s scoring opportunities and forced turnovers.
Khamille Warr was the leading scorer for the visiting Red Devils with 16 points and 14 rebounds, as ACCC headed back to Iola with their second loss of the campaign.
