The South Harrison Lady Bulldogs absorbed their first conference loss of the softball season, falling to the Polo Lady Panthers on Monday night by a score of 7-1.
A three-run bottom of the 4th inning opened up the game for the host Lady Panthers, with Hanna Vaught earning the win from the pitching circle, firing a complete game nine-hitter, striking out four batters and allowing just one run.
Hannah Carter of South Harrison allowed eight hits and seven runs over six innings, striking out three.
Chloe Gilbert had a home run for Polo in the sixth inning. Gilbert joined Mary Copeland and Kayla Larkin with a multi-hit night for the Lady Panthers.
Saige Bennett, Jillian Hurt, Kaliska Madison, and Brooklyn Russell had a multi-hit effort for South Harrison.
Putnam County spent its Labor Day on a short road trip, swinging eastward to Schuyler County to battle the Lady Rams. Three homers later, the Lady Midgets had their second victory in three days, this one coming in a 12-1 final score.
With cold weather and damp conditions threatening softball tonight, the Grand River Conference games, as of post-time (1:15 PM) remain on for Tuesday night, with Princeton at Trenton, Polo at Milan, and Gallatin at Putnam County all scheduled for a 5:30 first pitch.
