The Trenton Lady Bulldogs, among the elite squads in Missouri’s Class 3 headed into the 2018-2019 season, looked to be every bit as good as their pre-season hype on Tuesday night, hammering East Buchanan 69-24 in the season opener, broadcast on KTTN FM 92.3.

Trenton jumped on the visitors from Gower early, outscoring the Lady ‘Dogs 17-3 to end the first quarter, all coming after an early three-point shot by Lilly Schilling had given East Buch a 3-2 lead.  By halftime, a 25 point second-quarter extended Trenton’s lead to an insurmountable 44-17.

Returning all-state senior guard Ainsley Tolson led Trenton with 20 points (18 in the first half), while Salem Croy had 11, including a pair of three-pointers in the opening half.  Sophomore power forward Maci Moore began her second season on the Bulldog varsity with 16 points, as Trenton, as part of Coach Brian Upton’s goal to increase their offensive presence in the paint, had strong play from Moore, in addition to seniors Sidney Lynch and Taylor Richman:

Mykah Hurley had nine points for Trenton, seven of those coming in the second half, with McKayla Blackburn and Lynch both adding four.  Trenton’s girls will next be in action on Monday at 4:30, playing #8 Gilman City in the Gallatin Tournament.

The East Buchanan boys, led by 24 points from all-state forward Ethan Kilgore, beat Trenton 58-37, frustrating the host Bulldogs with a front-line that goes 6’6″, 6’6″, and 6’5″.  Owen Fortney had 12 points and Tristin Smith 11 for East Buch, while Trenton, falling to 0-1, was paced by 12 points from Carson Radcliff.  Max McNabb added 10 for Coach Jeremy Austin:

The Trenton boys will play #7 seed Hardin-Central at 5:45 on Monday evening from Gallatin High School, in the quarterfinal round of the Gallatin Tournament.
