The Kirksville Tigers outlasted the Trenton Bulldogs by a score of 5-4 on Monday night, winning a hotly contested tennis duel at the Bosley-Carpenter Courts at Trenton High School.
The closest match of the night was at #4 singles, where Kirksville senior Cedric Cook going overtime with Trenton sophomore Jacob White. After an 8-8 draw, Cook won the tiebreaker by a final tally of 7-4. Other singles wins for the Tigers were #2 entry Simon Mollick (over Victor Markell 8-3), #5 John Quinn 8-5 (over Jacob Horton), and #6 Jackson Meintz over Henry Lasley at #6 singles (8-1).
Trenton’s singles victories came from #1 senior Bradyn Sager, 8-4 over Quinton Dorrell, and #3 singles player Isaac Dixon, 8-4 over Brennan Bailey.
In doubles, Trenton claimed two of three matches against Kirksville, with Sager combining with Markell for an 8-2 win at #1 doubles over Dorrell and Mollick, while Dixon and White, at #2 doubles, downing Bailey and Cook. At #3 doubles, Kirksville’s freshman tandem of Quinn and Meintz beat Horton and Lasley 8-3.
Kirksville’s victory improves the Tigers to 8-2 this spring, while dropping the Bulldogs to 8-4.
