The Kansas City Royals, on Tuesday afternoon, announced a spring training schedule for February and March of next year in Surprise, Arizona, where the “Boys in Blue” share a training complex with the Texas Rangers. The Royals, in 2017, will be opening their 15th season of spring training in Surprise.
Kansas City’s 35-game Spring Training schedule will include the first six home games with 2:05 PM CT starts. A February 25th game against Texas, despite being played at Surprise Stadium, will have the Royals as the “visiting” team. The only “night” game of the spring will be on March 10th, with Kansas City playing Oakland at 7:05 PM CT. After Daylight Savings Time returns on March 12th, all Royals home games will start at 3:05 PM CT, until a March 29th affair with Texas at 2:05 PM CT.
The defending World Champion Chicago Cubs play the Royals in Surprise on Wednesday, March 1 (2:05 PM CT), with the defending American League Champion Cleveland Indians at the Royals on Saturday, March 18th (3:05 PM CT).
KC will also host the Venezuelan National Team on Wednesday, March 8th (2:05 PM CT), as that country prepares for the 2017 World Baseball Classic.
After completing their time in Arizona, Kansas City will ready for the regular season at Globe Life Park in Arlington, Texas, playing the Rangers in a two-game, weekend exhibition series (Friday, March 31st / 7:05 PM and Saturday, April 1st / 1:05 PM). The Royals open the 2017 regular season at Minnesota on Monday, April 3rd.
Pitchers and catchers will report to Surprise on Tuesday, February 14th. Workouts for pitchers begin the following day. The remainder of the squad will report on Friday, February 17th and begin workouts for the season on Saturday, February 18th.
