Penney High School left-hander Julia Kanoy dominated the bats of the Trenton Lady Bulldogs on Monday night, with a complete game shutout, as the host Lady Hornets claimed an 8-0 non-conference victory, heard on KTTN FM 92.3. Kanoy allowed only four base-runners and one hit, a scratch infield single by Gracyn Rongey in the 7th inning, striking out 16 Trenton batters in an overwhelming performance.
Trenton, in the top of the 1st inning, had a golden opportunity to score, with Chandler Lynch reaching via an error by the Hamilton shortstop, but after stealing second and moving to third on a throwing error, strikeouts of Lexi Whitaker and Teya Cooksey ended the threat.
Trenton ace right-hander McKayla Blackburn was pulled just before the game for what Coach Joel Hultman said was “being under the weather”, with Jena Reeter getting the start for the Lady Bulldogs. The experienced Lady Hornet offense racked up 10 hits in the victory, including a solo homer by Kanoy to lead off the 4th inning, and a two-run double by Lexi Potts in the third.
Hamilton, now 6-0 on the season, will host the Plattsburg Lady Tigers in a KCI Conference showdown on Thursday afternoon at 4:30, with Trenton returning home to host the South Harrison Bulldogs on Tuesday night at 5:30, in a game to be heard on KTTN FM 92.3. The Lady Bulldogs record is now 5-4 overall.
