Kansas City Chiefs’ All-Pro defensive tackle, Chris Jones, was absent from the start of the team’s mandatory minicamp, as he enters the final year of his contract. Jones’ absence may result in fines if unexcused, as per the collective bargaining agreement. Jones had an impressive season, recording 15.5 sacks and contributing to the team’s Super Bowl victory.

Jones currently carries a salary cap hit of $28 million for the season, the last year of his four-year, $80 million deal. Chiefs’ general manager, Brett Veach, expressed his intention to discuss a contract extension with Jones’ representatives, aiming to reach an agreement before training camp.

In other news, tight end Travis Kelce discussed his busy offseason, which included hosting “Saturday Night Live” and a visit to the White House with the Chiefs. He also participated in a golf exhibition alongside quarterback Patrick Mahomes against the Golden State Warriors’ Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson.

Regarding his off-field activities and maintaining fitness as he ages, Kelce emphasized the importance of finding a productive balance during free time and expressed his love for the game. When asked about his playing future, he stated that he plans to continue playing until he can no longer do so.

On a different note, the Denver Broncos agreed to a one-year, $5.5 million deal with former Kansas City Chiefs edge rusher Frank Clark. The signing followed third-year linebacker Baron Browning’s knee operation. Browning underwent a procedure to repair a torn meniscus but is expected to return for training camp.

Clark, who was released by the Chiefs for financial reasons, is a veteran pass rusher with a history of success. He will likely step in opposite Randy Gregory as a starter until Browning is back. Clark has a history of injuries but has never played in fewer than 14 games in a season. He was also suspended for two games last season due to a violation of the league’s personal conduct policy.
