University of Missouri redshirt freshman Johnathan Johnson, coming off a five catch, 115 yard performance in Saturday night’s 61-21 victory over Eastern Michigan, was named the SEC Freshman of the Week on Monday morning.
Johnson, out of Memphis, Tennessee, had a breakout game for the Tigers, after more than a year of showing his abilities on the practice field for MU. Last season, as a true freshman, Johnson impressed during fall camp, but an injury suffered just before the regular season moved him to redshirt status for the 2015 season. Â
Last week at West Virginia, Alabama transfer Chris Black made a noticeable impact at wide receiver in a 27-11 loss to the Mountaineers. Â With the emergence of both Johnson and St. Louis native Raymond Wingo (three catches, 125 yards), Mizzou is hopeful that increased production means a greater chance of an upset against Georgia.
The Tigers host UGA on Saturday night at 6:30 in the SEC opener for both Eastern Division rivals.
