Jayhawks gain commit from highly-rated Louisiana receiver

NCAA

If the Kansas Jayhawks are to make a move up the football ladder in the Big 12, sure, the coaching acumen of Les Miles may help out, but it is also a necessity that KU improve the level of its recruiting.  Going into his second year in Lawrence, the former LSU and Oklahoma State coach appears to be making good progress in that direction.

The latest standout verbal commitment for the Jayhawks came from Coach Miles’ old stopping grounds in Louisiana, where Opelousas Catholic High School wide receiver Keon Coleman has said yes to the Crimson and Blue.

As important as getting talent at the level of Coleman is, with Rivals rating Coleman as a three-star recruit and 247Sports a four-star, perhaps it’s every bit as telling that Kansas pulled Coleman away from a solid SEC program in South Carolina, and the traditional bully down Interstate 35 in the Big 12, in the Oklahoma Sooners.  Others offering Coleman were Florida State, Auburn, Georgia, and Baylor, among others.

Coleman is the highest-ranked recruit for the Jayhawks in the past 20 years, with ratings surpassing those of current KU running back Pooka Williams.

In addition to his football prowess, the 6-foot-4, 188 pound Coleman could see the floor for Bill Self’s nationally-ranked basketball program, as reports indicate that there have been discussions between the two on walking on to the hoops team.  Coleman is the 13th verbal commitment for Coach Miles in the recruiting class of 2021.
