Kansas City Chiefs second-year running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire, injured in the second half of Sunday night’s loss to Buffalo, has been diagnosed with a sprained MCL, an injury that will keep the LSU product out for a few weeks. The injury is not believed to be season-ending at this time.
Edwards-Helaire went down awkwardly on a Bills tackle in the third quarter of Sunday night’s 38-20 loss, after gaining 11 yards on a screen pass. Edwards-Helaire was rushed for 304 yards on 65 carries through five games this season.
With Kansas City’s starting running back down, the team’s depth at the position will be tested, with more carries expected, starting Sunday in Washington, for Darrel Williams and free agent pickup Jerick McKinnon.
Although he did not miss a snap in Sunday’s game, starting left guard Joe Thuney suffered a fractured hand in the first quarter. He continued to play after medical personnel were able to quickly put the hand in a cast.
All-Pro wide receiver Tyreek Hill sprained his knee on Sunday night, but after coach Andy Reid said postgame that Hill “hurt his knee a little bit”, ESPN on Monday said the injury is considered just minor.
Kansas City, sitting at 2-3 and in last place in the AFC West, faces a critical two-game road swing, playing at the Washington Football Team on Sunday, October 17th before a trip to Nashville to play the Tennessee Titans for the seventh game of the season.
