The Maryville Lady Spoofhounds won four of six singles matches and two of three doubles matches in a 6-3 tennis victory over Trenton on Monday afternoon. Most of Maryville’s individual wins came in fairly decisive fashion, although all nine matches resulted in at least one game won for all sides involved. The closest match, at #5 singles, went to an extended tiebreaker, with Alyssa Pace of Maryville beating Emilee Lovell of Trenton in the 10-8 tiebreak, winning the match 9-8.
The three other singles wins for the Lady ‘Hounds were not as close, with Athena Groumoutis downing Morgan Dolan in the #2 match, 8-1, Lauren Cullin over Mallory Sole at #3, 8-3, and Dakota Haughey defeating Lydia Leininger in the #6 singles match, 8-2.
Trenton snared two singles victories, with Lexi Gott, in the #1 match, rolling to an 8-1 win over Arianne Skidmore, and Alaina Overton, at #4 singles, defeating McKayla Springer 8-4.
In doubles play, Trenton’s win came from the #1 team of Gott and Dolan, 8-6 over Skidmore and Cullin. At #2 doubles, Maryville’s Groumoutis and Springer doubled up Sole and Overton, 8-4, while at #3 doubles, Maryville’s Pace and Haughey beat Lovell and Leininger 8-1.
In JV competition, Trenton’s doubles team of Lindsey Babcock and Faith Lee took a 6-4 win over Horn and Wilmes of Maryville. Other results were Maryville’s Schommer and Deering, a 7-6 (7-3 tiebreak) winner over Jessika Kennedy and Chloie Hall of Trenton. Rouner and Galapin of Maryville beat Faith Lee and Reni Marsh of the Lady Bulldogs 6-2.
It was also announced on Monday that Trenton girls tennis will be placed into a four-team district, joined by Kirksville, Chillicothe, and Cameron.
