Hornets take down Bulldogs in hotly contested wrestling duel at CHS

In a high intensity boys high school wrestling Tuesday night duel between archrivals Chillicothe and Trenton, the host Hornets, with a score bolstered by three forfeit victories to Trenton’s two, securing a 48-36.0 victory over the Bulldogs.

In the 106-pound weight class, Jacob White from Trenton faced off against Jace Hail from Chillicothe. White’s prowess was on full display as he secured a victory with a pin in 2 minutes and 33 seconds.  Trenton’s Trakor Hignutt earning a forfeit at 113 pounds. However, Chillicothe’s Carter Shipers claimed a forfeit victory at 120 pounds.

The momentum swung back in Trenton’s favor as Cooper Houser achieved a pin in 1 minute and 48 seconds against Luke Nickell at 126 pounds. Chillicothe answered with Kyler Eichler winning by forfeit at 132 pounds.

The back-and-forth battle continued with Mason Rongey from Trenton securing a pin in 2 minutes and 33 seconds against Isaiah Myers at 138 pounds. Walter Olmstead added to Trenton’s score with another forfeit victory at 144 pounds.

Chillicothe’s Henry Hurtgen turned the tide with an impressive performance, securing a pin in 5 minutes and 12 seconds against Henry Lasley at 150 pounds. Trenton responded with Spencer Steih claiming a pin in 2 minutes and 27 seconds against Lane Nickell at 157 pounds.

Brody Hollifield from Chillicothe seized a forfeit victory at 165 pounds, setting the stage for Cayden Larson’s pin in 2 minutes and 32 seconds against Logan Wilson at 175 pounds. Brody Carins continued Chillicothe’s winning streak with a quick pin in 44 seconds against Jackson Bethards at 190 pounds.

As the weight classes increased, Martin Moore from Chillicothe secured a pin in 4 minutes and 36 seconds against Barrett Clark at 215 pounds. The heavyweight battle saw Bo Smith from Chillicothe finish strong with a pin in 3 minutes and 3 seconds against Gavin Cagle.

There were two girls matchups between the Hornets and Bulldogs on Tuesday night, with the teams splitting the competition.  Trenton’s Avery Clark downed Tori Stoner of Chillicothe by 7-5 decision, with Keonnia Morgan of Chillicothe pinning Savannah Hughs of Trenton at the 1:29 mark of the first period.

Trenton’s turnaround to more wrestling action will be quick, with the Bulldogs traveling to Maysville today (Wednesday) to participate in the 2024 Grand River Conference wrestling tournament.  Action gets underway at 5 o’clock in the evening from the MHS gymnasium.
