Hornets sweep Cameron Invitational titles, Trenton boys 5th, girls 4th

The Chillicothe High School track and field teams won titles at the Cameron Invitational on Tuesday afternoon, with the Lady Hornets racking up 114 1/2 points to outdistance runner-up Lathrop’s total of 90 1/2, while the Chillicothe boys, with 121 1/3 points, beat second-place Lathrop’s total of 109 1/2 points.  The Penney boys were fourth (72) followed by Trenton’s fifth place total of 61.16 points.  The Trenton girls, with 68 points, finished in 4th place, eight points behind 3rd place Plattsburg.  Putnam County, with 67 points, finished 1 point behind the Lady Bulldogs, in fifth.

In the hurdles events, Chillicothe’s girls took a win with Jaime Albertson running 15.84 seconds to take the 100 meter crown.  Putnam County freshman Madison Simmons finished third.  Albertson, one of the strong senior athletes for the Lady Hornets, made it a hurdles “sweep” with a win in the 300 hurdles race, in a time of 50.36 seconds.  Kinzie Cantrell of Lathrop was 2nd and Kylee Larson of Chillicothe 3rd, with Whitley Richman of Trenton in 5th place, one spot behind Madison Simmons of Putnam County.

Brett Shaffer, a Chillicothe junior, had a strong day with hurdles, winning the boys 110 race with a time of 14.87 seconds.  Shaffer, like Albertson, swept the hurdles sprints for the Hornets, winning the 300 hurdles in 39.78 seconds.  Trenton’s Carson Radcliff was 4th (45.52 seconds).

In the running sprints, LeBlond junior Jacob Raczkowski won the 100 meter dash for the boys, with a time of 11.27 seconds.  Putnam County’s Carsin Quint was second (11.46) while Trenton senior Austin Burkeybile, with a time of 11.55 seconds, tied for 3rd with Daniel Ray of Savannah.  The girls 100 meter champion is Plattsburg’s Hanna Williams, with a time of 12.21 seconds.  Williams added the 200 meter win, in a time of 25.05 seconds. Putnam County freshman Hannah Myers was second.  Chillicothe’s Shaffer won the boys 200 meter dash at 22.84 seconds.  Trenton’s Wyatt Whittle was 7th.  In the girls 400 meter dash, Cameron sophomore Khayla Hollingsworth ran 1:02.24 to win that race.  Lathrop’s Madelyn Vonderfecht was 2nd and Brookfield’s Lauren Rhodes in 3rd.  Trenton’s Woodside ran 1:07.78 to finish 5th.  Penney junior Derek Dixon took the 400 boys race, at 52.14 seconds, 0.78 seconds ahead of teammate Brock Swindler.  Trenton’s Brian Ewing was in 3rd place, with a time of 53.58 seconds.

The girls 800 meter run went to Savannah’s Malayna Briner, with Cameron’s Hannah Robinson 2nd, and Penney’s Alexys Marshall in 3rd place. Chillicothe’s Carly Beebe was 4th, immediately followed by Trenton’s Cassidy Trump (2:52.97).  Cameron High School senior JaQuawn Jones ran 2:03.28 to win the 800 meter run.  Penney’s Andrew Ernat was 2nd.  Trenton’s Cole Schilling was 5th.

The 1600 meter girls race was taken by Savannah freshman Malayna Briner.  Cameron’s Hannah Robinson was 2nd.  Bishop LeBlond’s Jack Hausman won the boys 1600 (4:37.00), beating runner-up Layne Worman of Chillicothe by 1 1/2 seconds.  Chillicothe’s William Perry was 3rd and Trenton’s Daniel Rodriguez (5:00.50) in fourth place.  In the 3200 meter boys race, LeBlond senior Jack Hausman ran 10:18.58 to win, followed by Chillicothe’s Layne Worman (10:21.23).  Trenton senior Daniel Rodriguez ran 10:58.84 to finish 4th, 3 1/2 seconds behind 3rd place James Gunn of Brookfield.  Brookfield senior MaryAnne Matzen, in the girls 3200, ran 12:52.21 to win, followed in 2nd place by Penney freshman Nora Ford.

In the relays, the Trenton Lady Bulldogs took the crown in the 4 by 400 race, with a winning time of 4:2;3.30, beating runner-up Chillicothe by just 0.28 seconds.  Plattsburg was 3rd.  The Lathrop Lady Mules ran 51.90 seconds to win the 4 by 100 relay.  Trenton was a distant 7th.  The Lathrop boys took the 4 by 100 title in 45.24 seconds, 0.13 seconds ahead of the time by the runner-up Trenton Bulldogs.  Bishop LeBlond, with a time of 1:33.18, won the boys 4 by 200 relay, with Trenton running 1:37.24 to finish sixth.  The girls 4 by 200 relay was won by Plattsburg (1:49.74), with Lathrop 2nd. Chillicothe was in 6th place.  The Penney Hornets won the boys 4 by 800, with Lathrop 2nd.  Trenton’s time of 9:15.84 put the Bulldogs in third place, approximately 25 seconds behind the Hornets winning time of 8:50.93.  The boys 4 by 400 champion was the Chillicothe Hornets, running 3:34.81.  Cameron was 2nd with Trenton (3:43.81) in fifth place.  The girls 4 by 800 relay went to Penney, with a time of 11;04.43.  Lathrop was second (11:38.27) with Trenton’s Lady Bulldogs in third place (11:40.71).

Turning to the field events, Penney High School senior Brock Swindler took the long jump crown at 20 feet, 9 1/2 inches.  Lathrop’s Brock Lewis was second (20’5″), with Trenton’s Austin Burkeybile in third, with a leap of 19 feet, 8 inches.  Chillicothe senior Whitney Clampitt took the title in the girls long jump, at 15 feet, 11 inches, two inches better than second-place Madison Simmons of Putnam County.  Trenton senior Shayla Woodside, at 15 feet 1 1/2 inches, was third, earning six points for the Lady Bulldogs.  Clampitt added the title in the high jump, at 5 feet, 2 inches.  Trenton’s Whitley Richman, at 4 feet, 10 inches, finished 3rd.  In the boys high jump, Lathrop’s Mules won, with Drake Lewis going 6 feet, 4 inches, 6 inches better than runner-up Peyton Forck of Chillicothe.  Putnam County’s Carson Quint was 3rd, and Penney’s Andrew Ernat 4th.

The girls javelin toss went to the Plattsburg Lady Tigers, as sophomore Kelsie Lewis had a throw of 122 feet, 8 inches to take the win.  Brookfield’s Kate Ewing was third, followed by Chillicothe’s Jalynn Reeter and Molly Jones.  Kalvin Hudson of LeBlond took the boys javelin toss, at 143 feet, 8 inches, just over 5 feet ahead of runner-up Walker Graves of Chillicothe.  The boys shot put title went to Chillicothe’s Graves, at 48 feet, 4 inches. Putnam County’s Ryan Valentine was 2nd.  Trenton’s Hunter Trask was 8th.  Lathrop senior Alex VanVelzer threw the shot put 33 feet, 10 inches to win that competition.  Plattsburg’s Sydney Stephens was 2nd, five inches behind VanVelzer.  The girls discus winner was Lafayette senior Jessica Phelan, at 107 feet, 1 inch. Chillicothe’s Jylian Davis, at 102’10”, was second.  Chillicothe’s Walker Graves won the boys discus toss, at 147 feet. Brookfield’s Evan Fay (123’10”) was a distant 2nd.

The boys triple jump title went to Penney’s Brock Swindler, at 42 feet, 10 1/2 inches.  Lathrop’s Brock Lewis was 2nd.  Chillicothe’s Clampitt won the girls triple jump competition, at 35 feet, 5 inches.  Trenton’s Shayla Woodside (32′ 6.5″) was 2nd.

The girls pole vault crown goes to Putnam County junior Jaylee Knowles, with a best of 9 feet, 6 inches.  Trenton senior Mason Hooyman had 9 feet, to finish in 2nd place, while Trenton junior Cassidy Trump, at 8 feet, 6 inches, was 5th.  Cameron senior Joe Zinkand won the pole vault for the host Dragons, at 13 feet.  Lathrop’s Drew O’Connor was runner-up and Brookfield’s Gunner Martin was 3rd.
