The Penney Lady Hornets rallied from a 1-0 deficit after four innings, ripping off three runs in the 5th, and adding the decisive blow with five runs in the sixth, in beating the visiting Macon Tigerettes in a Wednesday night Class 2 sectional game, 8-2.
Hamilton, playing as the visitor on its home field, had 12 hits in the victory, led by Ali Trosper, Julia Kanoy, Cheyenne Farrow, and Atison Allsup with two hits each. Kanoy, the freshman left-hander to shut down Trenton in a 2-1 victory on Saturday, held Macon to only one hit, with the Tigerettes scoring single runs in the bottom of the 4th and bottom of the 6th innings.
Allsup and Jaide Herrera both had two RBI’s for Penney, advancing the Lady Hornets to the state quarterfinals, and a Saturday trip to KCI rival, once-beaten Lathrop. Lathrop, on Thursday night, won at Knob Noster 2-1, with Jacque Gentzell hitting a go-ahead solo home run in the 6th inning to get the victory to the Lady Mules. Lathrop is looking to advance to the “Final Four” for the third consecutive October. The Lady Mules, behind right-hander Brooke Huitt, will host Penney at 11 AM on Saturday.
The only Grand River Conference team still playing going into the weekend are the Maysville Wolverines, 8-0 sectional winners on Wednesday at Norborne. On Saturday at noon, Maysville will host the HDC champion North Harrison Lady Shamrocks in Class 1 quarterfinal action. The Lady Shamrocks, on Wednesday night, beat the visiting Lady Eagles of Platte Valley by a score of 3-2.
The season came to an end for the Gallatin Lady Bulldogs on Wednesday, as a long road trip for the District 12 champions resulted in an equally long night in Canton, as the Lady Tigers offense was the story in a 17-6 win, sending Canton into a Saturday quarterfinal with the Salisbury Lady Panthers, a 6-0 winner on Thursday night against Atlanta. The Canton vs. Salisbury quarterfinal will start at 2 PM Saturday from Salisbury.
