The Chillicothe Lady Hornet varsity won five matches to best the host Trenton Lady Bulldogs four, as the visiting side from Livingston County took a one point team win to sweep the regular season series against their tennis rival, 2 matches to zero.
While closely fought, individual matches between the Hornets and Bulldogs were not quite as tight as earlier this month, when Trenton lost two tiebreakers in a 7-2 defeat on Chillicothe’s home court. On Thursday night, the teams split six singles matches, with Trenton’s wins coming from Lexi Gott (8-1 over Delaney May), Mallory Sole (8-3 over Megan Sisson), and Alaina Overton (8-4 over Leah Lourenco). The Lady Hornets wins were off the rackets of Cami Carpenter, 8-2 over Morgan Dolan; Rylee Washburn by 8-4 final over Emilee Lovell, and, in the closest duel of the night, Olivia Anderson downing Lydia Leininger in the #6 singles match, 9-7.
In doubles, Trenton managed only one head-to-head victory against Chillicothe, another key in the duel tipping slightly towards Chillicothe. At #1 singles, the Bulldogs entry of Gott and Dolan had a strong performance in an 8-3 win over May and Sisson. Chillicothe’s duo of Carpenter and Laurenco downed Sole and Overton 8-4, with Washburn and Anderson taking an 8-3 win over Lovell and Leininger at #3 doubles.
Trenton coach Tammy Ockenfels said of the match, “It was a hard fought night after a full week of tennis! The Lady Bulldogs have played four matches in four days and I’m proud of all of them! We are improving every match!”
The two rival schools played four JV matches, two in doubles and two in singles, with the Hornets winning three matches to the Bulldogs one. Trenton’s Jessika Kennedy and Chloie Hall beat Crowe and Epperson of CHS 6-2, with the other doubles match going to Grable and Bryton of the Hornets, 6-2 over Faith Lee and Reni Marsh of Trenton.
JV singles was firmly controlled by Chillicothe, as Audrey Snider beat Jessika Kennedy 6-1, while Isabella Garr claimed a 6-love win over Faith Lee.
