The Gallatin Lady Bulldogs softball season, off to a promising start, was recently hit by news of a positive COVID-19 test, halting the program’s momentum while players and coaches went under a quarantine. The upcoming week is expected to see the return of the Lady Bulldogs to the softball diamond, with hopes that good health and good weather allow for a flurry of games, starting on Tuesday, September 22nd, to be played, allowing Gallatin to play its full allotment of seven GRC Eastern Division contest.
The Gallatin High School Athletic Department and director Barron Gann have announced a refurbished schedule for the Lady Bulldogs, beginning this coming Tuesday with a trip to Bethany to play the South Harrison Lady Bulldogs. That game will start at 5:30. In a GRC “cross-over” matchup, on Thursday, September 24th, Gallatin hosts Stanberry in an “all-Bulldog” battle at 5:30.
On Saturday, September 26th, Gallatin had been scheduled to play GRC rival Putnam County in a pool play game at the Nan Carter Classic in Trenton. That game remains in place, set for a 9 AM first pitch. However, by agreement of both schools, the game will count as a conference matchup in addition to tournament considerations.
The following week, Gallatin will have three conference games over a three-night span, two of them at GHS. On Monday night, September 28th, Trenton visits Gallatin, with coverage of the 5:30 contest on KTTN FM 92.3. On Tuesday, September 29th, Gallatin travels to Maysville to play the GRC East leading Lady Wolverines at 5:30.
On Wednesday, September 30th, there will be a middle school/varsity softball doubleheader at the Gallatin Softball Complex, with the Lady Bulldog middle school team hosting Milan at 5 o’clock, followed by the Lady Bulldog varsity hosting the Princeton Lady Tigers at 6:30. The Princeton at Gallatin VARSITY game will be broadcast on KTTN FM 92.3. There will not be a junior varsity game played by Gallatin that night.
Unless there are any last-minute surprises, which is not expected, the Trenton High School junior varsity and varsity football programs are expected to return from their 14-day quarantines due to COVID-19 on Tuesday, September 22nd, leaving the Bulldogs with three afternoons of practice to return to shape and get ready for a visit from the unbeaten Milan Wildcats on Friday, September 25th. That 7 o’clock game from C.F. Russell Stadium, for the Bulldog homecoming contest, will be aired live on Hot Country Z 101.7.
Trenton athletic director John Cowling has announced two additions to Lady Bulldog fall sports scheduling, with the tennis team now headed for St. Joseph’s Noyes Courts on Wednesday, September 23rd for the Lafayette Invitational, starting at 8:30 AM, while the Lady Bulldog volleyball team hosts Wellington-Napoleon on Wednesday, September 23rd, with the JV match at 5 o’clock followed by the varsity contest. The varsity match, scheduled for a 6 o’clock start, will be carried live on KTTN FM 92.3.
