The Texas Rangers rode the pitching excellence of Andrew Heaney, along with three homers, including a sixth-inning grand slam from Adolis Garcia, to an 11-2 victory over the Kansas City Royals on Monday night in Arlington, Texas.

Heaney, in a streak that began with punch-outs of Matt Duffy and Nicky Lopez in the first inning, would go on to strikeout nine consecutive batters, with a Duffy flyout ending the streak with a flyout to left with one out in the 4th inning.  Heaney went five innings, allowing two runs, one earned, on two hits, improving to 1-1.  The nine consecutive strikeouts tied the American League record set by Detroit reliever Tyler Alexander (August 2020) and Detroit reliever Doug Fister (September 2012).

Texas scored seven runs to put the game out of reach in the sixth inning, highlighted by Garcia’s slam that snapped a personal 0-for-16 slump.  Corey Seager and Jonah Heim homered off starter and losing pitcher Zach Greinke (0-3).  Hunter Dozier homered for KC in the seventh inning.

In Denver, Colorado, the Rockies beat the St. Louis Cardinals 7-4.  German Marquez pitched five innings to earn the win.  Alan Trejo had three hits for the Rockies.  Steven Matz took the loss for the Cardinals, falling to 0-2, allowing six runs and nine hits over 5 2/3 innings of work.
