All-Conference status and honorable mention selections have been awarded to a number of area student-athletes by the HDC Conference with the 2022 softball season winding to a close this weekend.
Thirteen young ladies were named to the HDC All-Conference softball team, with 10 of those in unanimous fashion. Ten girls were named to the honorable mention squad.
Winston had a cooperative with nearby rival Pattonsburg this fall, as the Lady Panthers sought an agreement after having only four girls go out for the sport in 2022. That cooperative sparked a strong team of Redbirds, with head coach Ashley Mazurkewycz of Winston High School named HDC Coach of the Year.
Four players from Winston were named All-HDC, with Shaelyn Pliley, Kortney Estes, and Katelyn Jones named by unanimous fashion, joined by Megan Christensen.
The Mercer Lady Cardinals had the most players named all-conference, with five players chosen for the squad, in Kaydee Hill, Summer Martin, Maddi Fisher, Jordan Coon, and Bailey Houk named. Hill, Martin, Fisher, and Coon’s selections were unanimous.
Others named first-team All-HDC were East Harrison’s Karlee Crouse, Gilman City’s Riah Crump and Ava Langfitt, and Grundy R-V’s Adysan Rains.
HDC honorable mention selections were East Harrison’s Alexis Booth and Chloe Billups, Winston’s Marissa Uthe and Raegan Wollam, Mercer’s Breanna Houk and Makenzie Hagan, Gilman City’s Avery Gregg, Laina Ward, and Ericka Burke, and Grundy R-V’s Skylar Bonnett.
