Penney High School’s Samantha Cornelius improved her position by five places on Tuesday, moving up from a 15th place tie to a 10th place tie, medaling at the Class 1 state golf tournament. Notre Dame (Cape Girardeau) won the Class 1 team title with a two-day score of 649. Macon was fifth at 758, with Gallatin in 7th place, shooting 815. For Trenton High School, Werthen Gass completed her first experience at state with a score of 204, placing her in a 68th place tie.
Gass’ 204 compared favorably with many of the two-day totals shot by golfers from the Grand River Conference, with South Harrison’s Kylie Gannon shooting a 187 for 33rd place, representing the top score out of the GRC. Gallatin’s five golfers finished between 49th (Kaitlyn Bird – 193) and 82nd (Taylor Sloan – 219) place. Megan Cox shot 203, Kelli Lynch 207, and Taylor Rardon 216 for GHS.
King City’s Olivia Law, the GRC tournament individual champion, shot a 196 for 53rd place. Stanberry’s Allison Marticke, with a 191, finished 44th. Chillicothe’s only golfer at New Bloomfield, Lexi Hargrave, shot 253 for 91st place.
The invididual state championship went to Notre Dame’s Sarah Bell, with a two-day total of 146.
For the Class 2 event in Columbia, St. Joseph’s Academy took the state title with a total of 675. Julia Bower of Columbia Rock Bridge split the individual state title with Seckman’s Claire Solovic, both turning in scores of 149.
