The Grundy R-V Panther baseball team, on the strength of a seven run 5th inning, hammered the Novinger Wildcats on Monday night 12-3. The seven-run explosion followed a five run burst in the third inning.
Sophomore Corbin Axtell had an RBI single in the third inning, followed by an RBI hit by Mason Rayl, with another run scoring via error, and Layden Fordyce adding a two-run single.
In the 7-run fifth inning to put the game away, Hunter Miller was joined by Zach Cross, Axtell, and Rayl in cracking RBI base hits.
From the pitching mound, Grundy R-V’s Aidan Rains was solid, allowing three runs and three hits over five innings, while striking out eight Wildcats. Rains, on the bases, had three steals for the Panthers, with Axtell and Fordyce joining Johannes Oaks in picking up multi-hit games.
