The Grundy County R-5 Lady Panthers took an important late season softball win on Monday night, with consistent offense, including five runs in a decisive second innings, giving the Lady Panthers a 14-10 at Mercer.
The victory improves Grundy to 9-8 on the season. Aubrey Gann had a double and triple to lead the offensive attack, while Zoe Littleton and Anna Milazzo both had triples. Â
Grundy R-5 scored the first nine runs of the game before the Lady Cardinals rallied with three runs in the third, two more in the fourth, and five runs to cut the lead to 13-10 after six innings.
From the pitchers circle, Littleton struck out 10 Lady Cardinals in the Grundy win. The Lady Panthers, coming off of a 9-7 loss on Friday night to Novinger, have a rematch with Novinger set for tonight (Tuesday night) at Novinger. A game at Brashear follows on Friday, with the home finale in Galt slated for Monday, October 2nd against Meadville.
The Mercer girls are in the midst of a very busy final week of the regular season, hosting the Tri-County Lady Mustangs tonight (Tuesday night), heading to Linn County on Thursday, playing in the George Scurlock Memorial Tournament in Princeton on Saturday, and playing at Green City on Monday (October 2nd). Â
In district play next week, Grundy County will travel to Green City, with #5 seed Mercer playing Worth County in a first-round game at Albany on Wednesday, October 4th.
