Alex Peterson will lead the Grundy County R-5 boys into their first season of baseball, as a handful of HDC schools, due to increased teams playing softball, switched to baseball for the 2016-2017 athletic year.  The move to baseball should be beneficial from a scheduling standpoint for the Panthers, as many neighboring districts in the Tri-County Conference, including Green City, Linn County, Meadville, and Novinger, offer boy’s baseball as well.

Fourteen young men will make up the Panther squad this year, a number just enough to be comfortable for Coach Peterson, who noted the importance of pitching staff depth in having a quality baseball program:

That change to the pitching philosophy will lead to a good amount of “mixing and matching” for the Panther coach this fall:

Coach Peterson is keeping expectations for Grundy’s first baseball season at a fairly basic level:

The Panthers will open the season against Brashear, playing the Tigers at the field in Newtown at 7 o’clock on Tuesday, August 23rd.  The first significant test of the campaign, with multiple games planned for one day, will be at the East Harrison Tournament, on Saturday, August 27th in Ridgeway:

That is Grundy County R-5 baseball coach Alex Peterson.
