The Grundy R-5 Lady Panthers played host to the Mercer Lady Cardinals in an HDC softball contest on Thursday night in Newtown, with the Panthers scoring six times in the bottom of the 6th inning, turning a 13-10 deficit into a 16-13 victory.
In a wild night on the diamond, Grundy took a 1-0 lead with a single 1st inning tally, before both teams tallied four runs in the 2nd inning, and one run each in the 3rd. A Panther run in the bottom of the 4th made the score 7-5 Grundy County.
The scoreboard got active again in the late innings, with Mercer putting up five runs in the 5th to take a 10-7 lead, only to have the home team tie the game with 3 runs in the bottom of the 5th. Mercer’s three-run 6th inning was then answered by the six Panther runs in the home 6th. A scoreless top of the 7th inning ended the game in favor of Grundy County.
Zoe Littleton picked up the win for the Lady Panthers, with Emily Otto stealing two bases and contributing an RBI. Aubrey Gann had a double, one RBI, and three steals. Amy Torrey had five steals and an RBI. Grundy R-5 is now 6-7 on the fall softball season.
