The Grundy County Panthers and Bevier Wildcats met in a non-conference basketball doubleheader on Tuesday night, with the Lady Panthers opening the night with a 54-18 victory over BHS.
Danni Peterson led R-5 with 17 points, with Matana Munday and Zoe Littleton each scoring 10.
The boys game, for a half, was much more competitive, as the teams headed to the locker room tied at 24. However, Bevier took control of the game in the final half, winning 53-38. Dylan Hernandez led the Wildcats with 11 points, while for Grundy County, Bryson Gann had 14 points and three rebounds, while Wayne Baxter contributed 9 points and six boards.
In other Tuesday night action, the Carrollton boys won at Brookfield 63-33, the Lawson boys went triple overtime in an 82-76 win against Wellington-Napoleon, the Knox County Eagles swept a doubleheader in Edina against Putnam County (62-43 girls and 76-48 boys), while in high school wrestling, Gallatin opened its season with a triangular win, beating Kansas City O’Hara 58-11 and Maysville 51-26.
