Grundy girls, behind 21 from Jandie Peterson, open three-game homestand with win over Meadville

The Grundy R-5 Lady Panthers got a 21 point, 8 rebound night from Jandie Peterson and 16 points and 6 steals from Morgan Axtell, in a 60-46 victory over the visiting Meadville Lady Eagles on Monday night in Galt.  Brianna Carpio had 10 points and five steals, while Anna Milazzo had eight points and a team-high 12 rebounds for Grundy.

The Meadville boys won the nightcap in Galt, 69-46 over the host Panthers.  Bryson Gann and Jonathon Stimpson both had 13 points and Caden Gann ten points for Grundy R-5.  

The Panthers home stretch continues tonight (Tuesday night), with the Gilman City Hawks traveling to Galt for an HDC doubleheader (girls at 6, boys at 7:30).

The Green City Gophers played in the quarterfinal round of the LaPlata Tournament on Monday night, both taking double digit victories.  The Lady Gophers remained the only unbeaten squad left in the state for Class 1 girls, with a 60-42 win over the North Shelby Lady Raiders.  The Green City boys downed Northeast of Cairo 63-47.  Other LaPlata quarterfinal scores were the Canton boys over Atlanta 74-29 and the Madison girls over Atlanta 62-17.

The Green City girls, in a semifinal battle of Top 5 ranked Class 1 squads, will take on the Madison Lady Panthers on Wednesday night at 7:30, while the Gopher boys take on #1 seed Canton on Wednesday night at 6 from the LaPlata gymnasium.
