Green City Lady Gophers finish runner-up in Class 1, Section 4 track meet at Chillicothe High School

The South Holt boys won a highly-competitive Class 1, Section 4 track meet on Saturday afternoon at Chillicothe High School, scoring 65 points to edge the 60 points from runner-up squads from St. Joseph Christian and Stewartsville.  The Princeton Tigers scored 44 points to finish 7th, with King City in ninth place with 39 points and Meadville, with 37 points, in tenth place.  The Mound City Lady Panthers won the Section 4 title, scoring 102 points, 29 more than runner-up Green City.  Worth County, with 62 points, was third.  Stanberry amassed 45 points for fifth place, while King City, with 38 points, was 8th, and Princeton’s 31 points earning 10th place.  Top four individual finishers will advance to this weekend’s Class 1 state meet at Jefferson City High School.

Individually, starting with field events, Pattonsburg’s Brett Curtis was 2nd in the high jump, with Mack Anderson of Southwest Livingston in 3rd place.  In the girls high jump, Marissa Jensen of Stanberry was 1st, followed by Nikita Powell of Green City.  Mack Anderson of Southwest won the boy’s long jump, at 20 feet, 11.25 inches, with Peyton Jones of Pattonsburg in third place.  Anna Gladstone of Worth County took the girls long jump, with Colee Webb of Southwest 3rd, and Nikita Powell of Green City in 4th place.

Pattonsburg junior Peyton Jones went 42 feet, 3.5 inches to win the boy’s triple jump.  Devin Fields of Green City was third and Ryan Young of Meadville 4th.  Colee Webb of Southwest won the girls triple jump, at 35 feet, 10 inches.  The girls discus title went to Southwest junior Kaylie Campbell, at 128 feet, 3 inches.  Matana Munday of Grundy R-5 will move onto state, finishing 4th, at 120 feet, 3 inches in discus.

In the boys shot put, Blake Foster of Newtown-Harris earned a spot in Jefferson City, finishing 4th.  Southwest’s Kaylie Campbell was 4th in the girls shot put.  Payton Craig of North Harrison, at 117 feet, 8 inches, took the girls javelin title.

The 4 by 100 relay titles went to the King City boys and Mound City girls, with the South Holt boys (King City 2nd) Mound City girls (King City 2nd, Green City 4th) winning the 4 by 200 relays.  The South Holt boys won the 4 by 400 relay, with Stanberry third.  Mound City won the girls 4 by 400, with Stanberry in the runner-up spot.  The Mound City boys took the 4 by 800 relay.  The Princeton Tigers team of Berwanger, Gittings, Dunkin, and Smith, finished 4th, advancing to state. The Mound City Lady Panthers took the girls 4 by 800, with Stanberry second.

Worth County’s Anna Gladstone won the 100 hurdles, with Katelyn Conner of Green City in second place.  Green City’s Cameron Conner was fourth in the boys 300 hurdles, with Katelyn Conner of Green City running 46.75 seconds to win the girls 300 hurdles.

In the boys 100 dash, David Hershberger of King City was 3rd and J.D. Baker of North Harrison fourth.  Grace Schottel of King City won the girls 100 (13.14 seconds), with Jaelyn Thomas of Princeton 2nd (just 0.09 seconds behind), and Kaylie Campbell of Southwest in third place.

In the boys 200, Linn County’s Dusten Coke was 2nd and Devin Breckenridge of King City 4th.  Grace Schottel of King City ran 27.11 seconds to win the girls 200.  Princeton’s Jaelyn Thomas was just 0.12 seconds behind in the second spot, while Katelyn Conner of Green City was 3rd, and Kaylie Campbell of Southwest in fourth place.

In the 400 meter dash, Linn County’s Dusten Coke was 3rd in the boys race.  King City’s Grace Schottel added another win in the girls race, running 1:00.55, 1.09 seconds more than runner-up Jaelyn Thomas of Princeton.  Hailey Wilmes of Stanberry was 3rd.

Meadville’s Dillon Seckington was third in the boys 800, with Wilmes of Stanberry 2nd in the girls 800.  Seckington won the boys 1600 for the Meadville Eagles, at 4:45.66.  Princeton finished 3rd and 4th, with Preston Thomas and Logan Dunkin in those slots.  Stanberry’s Allison Marticke was 4th in the girls 1600.  Logan Dunkin of Princeton was 3rd in the 3200 meter run.
