The Grand River Conference, noting the dangers involved with large crowds in an indoor environments from multiple school districts, has voted to cancel the conference’s wrestling tournament on January 30th and the annual basketball “Showcase”, scheduled to be played at Milan High School, on February 13th.  The votes to cancel were made during the GRC Superintendent’s meeting held on Wednesday, October 20th.

While the GRC wrestling tournament is canceled, the conference is working on a schedule change that would see member schools wrestling one another in a dual meet format over the span of the four Saturday’s in the months of December and January.  The 2020-2021 GRC Wrestling championship team will be decided on the basis on those dual meet records.

With a new gymnasium nearing completion at Milan, the Wildcat basketball program was awarded the hosting honor for the 2021 GRC “Showcase”, with that event called off due to health concerns over COVID-19 spread.

There will be, according to GRC officials, “Cross-Over” games played on February 13th, with Eastern Division schools (Maysville, South Harrison, Trenton, Princeton, Gallatin, Putnam County, Polo, and Milan) hosting.  To allow fans from Western Division schools to travel to the game of their choice, tip times will be staggered, with girls tip at 1:00 PM and boys at 5:00 PM.  However, those times could be adjusted if a school has its girls and boys teams playing at the same site.

The Grand River Conference will return the its traditional Wrestling Tournament and Basketball Showcase formats in the 2021-2022 seasons.
