Kansas City Royals left fielder Alex Gordon is going into retirement on a high note, winning an 8th Rawlings American League Gold Glove Award on Tuesday night, tying Royals Hall of Famer Frank White for the most by a player in franchise history.
Gordon announced his retirement prior to the final weekend of the 2020 regular season, finishing a 14-year run (all in Kansas City) highlighted by a game-tying ninth inning homer in Game 1 of the 2015 World Series, and superlative defense, including a MLB-high 102 outfield assists in the decade of the 2010’s.
Across the state in St. Louis, a pair of Cardinals earned National League Gold Gloves, with second baseman Kolten Wong and left-fielder Tyler O’Neill receiving the honor.
Others winning Gold Gloves included Colorado third baseman Nolan Arenado, Dodgers right fielder Mookie Betts, Cubs first baseman Anthony Rizzo and shortstop Javier Baez, Cincinnati catcher Tucker Barnhart, Indians catcher Roberto Perez and second baseman Cesar Hernandez, Seattle first baseman Evan White and shortstop J.P. Crawford, Rangers third baseman Isiah Kiner-Falefa and right fielder Joey Gallo, White Sox center fielder Luis Robert and Angels pitcher Griffin Canning.
