Kansas City Royals left fielder Alex Gordon has been named the American League Rawlings Platinum Glove winner for 2020, marking the second time in his career (joining 2014) he won the honor.
An award established in 2011, the Platinum Glove is given to the best defensive player, regardless of position, in each league. In the decade since the platinum was best awarded, Gordon is the first outfielder to win the honor multiple times. Others (all infielders) winning multiple Platinum Gloves are Colorado’s Nolan Arenado (2017-2019), Oakland’s Matt Chapman (2018-2019), Rangers third baseman Adrian Beltre (2012-2013), and Cardinals catchers Yadier Molina (2011, 2012, 2014, and 2015).
Gordon has announced his retirement from baseball and the Royals following a 14-year big league career. Earlier this week, Gordon won his eighth Gold Glove awards, matching Frank White (1977-1982, 1986-1987) for the most in franchise history.
