Golf season concludes with Tuesday’s second round of state competition

The boys golf season in the state of Missouri wrapped up with two day tournaments at five separate locations on Monday and Tuesday.

Among local highlights were the Gallatin Bulldogs finishing in the runner-up spot in Class 1, behind state champion Salisbury, with two Chillicothe Hornets, two Trenton Bulldogs, and a pair of South Harrison Bulldogs competing in their respective classes.

Class 2 was contested at the Rivercut Course in Springfield, with Summit Christian Academy sweeping the team and individual titles, with SCA’s team score of 630 besting California’s runner-up tally of 662.  Peyton Smith of SCA won the state title with a two-day score of 142, one stroke better than William Boyd of California.

Trenton’s Riley Gott shot 87 on Monday and struggled a bit more on Tuesday, with a 93 giving him a two-day total of 180, putting him in a seven-way tie for 35th place.  South Harrison’s Quinn Taylor, at 181, tied for 42nd place.  In comparison to his teammate Gott, Trenton’s Kiefer Tolson golfed much better on Tuesday, with a 101 on Monday followed by 85 on the second day, with a total of 186 putting the THS sophomore in 53rd place.  South Harrison’s Caden Littrell, with 193, was 64th place.

In Class 1 at the Country Club of Columbia, Salisbury’s team score of 675 bested Gallatin’s 699 to win the state crown.  Marceline tied St. Vincent for sixth place at 738.  Asher Rust of Ash Grove, at 149, finished in first place.  The top area individual score locally was Marceline’s Braden Lichtenberg, with a 7th place 158.

Other area scores from Class 1 were Lance O’Dell of Marceline at 168, Isaac Bird of Gallatin at 170, Cooper Clark of Milan 171, Payton Feiden of Gallatin 174, Jack Donovan of Gallatin 176, and Logan Bottcher of Gallatin at 180.

In the Class 3 state tournament at Meadow Lake Acres in New Bloomfield, Chillicothe’s Jackson Trout shot 158 to finish in a 14th place tie.  Cameron’s Brady Stice, at 156, tied for 12th place, with Chillicothe’s James Mathew in 34th place at 169.  Bishop LeBlond, out of the MEC, swept the titles, with a team score of 632, and Timothy Johnston’s individual tally of 145.

In the Class 4 tournament at the Sedalia Country Club, Pembroke Hill won the team total with a score of 611.  Jonathan Jordan of Rolla, with a score of 140, took the state crown.  In Class 5 at the Solo Ridge Country Club in Bolivar, Chamindale Prep edged Kansas City Rockhurst by one shot (594-595) to win the team title.  There was a three-way tie for the individual title, with 142’s from Chaminade Prep’s Bubba Chapman, Rockhurst’s Jack Cobb, and Liberty North’s Caden Mickelson.
