Postseason for girl’s golf in Missouri arrived on Monday afternoon, with Class 1 tournaments held in Maryville (District 4) and Columbia (District 3), with Chillicothe and Cameron among teams competing in Class 2, District 4 in Excelsior Springs.
Top two teams in each district advance their entire squads to next week’s state tournament, in addition to individuals finishing in the Top 20 in the final 18-hole tallies.
Starting at the L.A. Nickell Golf Course in Columbia, Brookfield’s Lady Bulldogs won the Class 1, District 3 tournament with a team score of 432, with Salisbury trailing in second place with a score of 445. Marceline, despite finishing a distant eighth place as a team with a score of 523, had the top individual result, as Tess Sheerman put up a score of 27 over par 97 to win medalist honors. Abbie Koenen of Putnam County was in second place, one stroke back at 98.
In the Class 1 state tournament, Brookfield and Salisbury will be joined by seven other schools chasing a championship, with Centralia, Tarkio, New Covenant Academy, Villa Duchesne, St. Michael the Archangel, and Maysville in the field.
Top 20 finishers from District 3, advancing to state, including Brookfield’s Carly Clarkson with 5th place 103, Mallory McCabe 6th place 105, and Rose Polson 7th place 107. Brookfield’s Ella Thompson had an 18th place round of 117.
Trenton High School had four golfers in Columbia, with Reece Weldon unable to attend for the Lady Bulldogs. Josie Chumbley’s score of 126 finished four strokes above the cut line of 122 for Trenton, with Mari Atup shooting 134, Sofia Currie 149, and Morgan Brown 165.
The Mozingo Lake Course in Maryville hosted the Class 1, District 4 tournament, with Tarkio winning the meet with a team score of 438, followed by East Buchanan’s runner-up tally of 443. Maysville was third with 478 and Gallatin fifth place at 519.
Madi Jessen of East Buchanan was the individual medalist at 21 over par 93. Gallatin’s Elle Copple will be one of two Lady Bulldogs headed for state, with a third place round of 102. Maysville’s Hannah Riner shot 103 for 6th place, with Ali McManus of the Lady Wolverines in 9th place at 116. Others advancing locally are Worth County’s Justina Wimer, 12th place at 119, Gallatin’s Courtney Crose at 126, and Maysville’s Claire Renfro at 129 and Hayley Sweiger at 130. North Harrison’s Karley Koch barely advanced, moving on at 131, in a two-way tie for 19th place at the cut line.
In Class 2, District 4 in Excelsior Springs, Smithville took the top team position with a score of 388, as Warrensburg was second with 414. Cameron’s score of 448 was fifth, with Chillicothe shooting 460 in 7th place.
Sydney Stevens of Odessa took individual medalist honors at 17 over par 89. Two Cameron players and two Chillicothe Lady Hornets will advance to state, with Chillicothe’s Skyler Powers in 10th place at 102, Cameron’s Kennedy Roach shooting 106 in 13th place, Cameron’s Hailee Williams in a 17th place tie at 109, while the Lady Hornets’ Izzy Montgomery took the final qualifying position, shooting 111 for 19th place.
State tournaments in Missouri will be contested on Monday, October 18th and Tuesday, October 19th, with Class 1 at the Silo Ridge Golf and Country Club in Bolivar, Class 2 at the Columbia Country Club, Class 3 headed to the Meadow Lake Acres Country Club in New Bloomfield, and Class 4 at the Rivercut Golf Course in Springfield.
