The Trenton Lady Bulldogs celebrated Senior Night on the links of Riverside Country Club on Thursday night, with Werthen Gass, in the final performance on her “home course”, tying Richmond’s Ava Wirsig for co-medalist honors, both at 44. Officially, on a scorecard tiebreaker playoff, Gass got the victory, with Coach Travis Mullenix calling it” a great way to finish the regular season”.
Trenton’s team total was 221, one stroke behind runner-up Maysville’s 220 and 21 strokes behind the winning score of 200 by Richmond. Maci Henson shot 53 for THS, with Oakley Madden at 56, Mari Atup 68, and Ann Airey with a 69.
For Richmond, in addition to Wirsig’s 44, Taya Weber was at 49, Gracie Marshall shot 53, Katie Smith 54, and Alissa Pritchett 57. For Maysville, Emily Whiteman and Gabby Hulett both were at 54, Sydney Meek and Callie Justus 56 each, and Laynie Sweiger 61.
Josie Chumbley participated in junior varsity action for Trenton, shooting 68. All five Maysville girls played varsity, while Richmond was the only team with four JV golfers.
Coach Mullenix said of his individual golfers that Maci and Oakley “are playing better, but looking to find some consistency and learn to save a stroke when they can”, adding he is “very proud of the newcomers to the program, Ann, Josie, and Mari. All have been great additions to the team and through work, have the potential to be really good golfers”.
