Gallatin High School’s Jett Simmons shot a 35 on Friday afternoon, one stroke better than the 36 by Marceline’s Tyler Hamilton, in the chase for individual medalist honors in a four-team (Trenton, Marceline, Carrollton, Gallatin) duel at Riverside Country Club.
Trenton’s Nate Swann played very well for the host Bulldogs, finishing with a 37 for the third-best score of day over nine holes. Other Trenton scores on a day that Coach Travis Mullenix said his team “can be better”, were 41 from Cree Mullenix, 42’s for Corbyn Guile and Lathan Croy, and 48 from Luke Lewis.
Gallatin’s team score of 156 won the team chase, followed closely by runner-up Marceline’s 160, and Trenton’s score of 162. Carrollton was well back of the pack, with the Trojans putting up a total of 222.
Trenton’s busy mid-April golf schedule continues into this week, with the Bulldogs hosting Princeton and Putnam County on Monday afternoon at 4 o’clock at Riverside. The Bulldogs will be in the quad in North Kansas City on Tuesday afternoon, and play in the Cameron Tournament on Wednesday, starting at 9 o’clock in the morning. At the very least, Trenton, and other squads across northwest Missouri, should start to show improvement, with the vicious and steady wind gusts of early April finally beginning to dissipate region-wide.
