The Gallatin Bulldogs, giving up a 57 yard strike from Cody Weller to Treyton Campbell, trailed rival South Harrison 6-0 after the first quarter on Friday night. However, the stout defense of GHS stifled South Harrison for the final three quarters, while the Gallatin offense got two touchdowns, and bulls-eye kicking from Adrian Hernandez, in a 17-6 road win that keeps the Bulldogs tied with Princeton for first place in the Grand River Conference.
Gallatin took the lead going into the half on the power of a Corbin Toney 9 yard scoring run and a Hernandez extra point in the second quarter. GHS extended the advantage to 14-6 in the third quarter, on a Caleb Boyd 13 yard scamper, and Hernandez extra point. With the Gallatin defense continuing to set the pace with its superb play, the visitors added insurance in the final quarter on a 27 yard Hernandez field goal, leaving the final score at 17-6.
The win keeps the Bulldogs (4-1, 3-0) even with the Princeton Tigers atop the GRC standings, after Princeton, in action heard on KTTN FM 92.3, walloped Putnam County, 56-14. The Polo Panthers are tied with the Trenton Bulldogs for third place, with both teams at 2-1 in conference play, after Polo beat Maysville, 51-12.
Gallatin and Princeton will play at Eddie Allen Field in Princeton on Friday, September 29th (KTTN FM 92.3), while the Tigers travel to play Maysville this week. Other Week 6 games will include South Harrison at Trenton (KGOZ FM 101.7), Putnam County vs. Polo, and Milan at Gallatin (KTTN FM 92.3).
