The Gallatin Bulldogs, on Tuesday morning, shot 339 to win the rain-shortened Class 1 state golf championship in Nixa. The Bulldogs outshot LaPlata and Greenwood by seven shots, with the latter two teams in a runner-up tie at 346. The Marceline Tigers, with a score of 371, finished sixth, while the Penney Hornets, at 372, finished 7th in the nine team field.
Peyton Needy of Green Ridge won the individual state title with a round of 74. Brian Whitson of Advance High School was second at 75, with Tony Brandt of Greenwood third at 76.
Gallatin’s Jett Simmons shot 77 for a fourth place finish, while the other scores from the state champion Bulldogs were 82 (6th place tie) for Gabriel Cole, 90’s for Logan Burns and Bradley Rhoades, and 98 for Wyatt Bird.
Hamilton’s top score was an 83 from Ethan Green, good for an 8th place tie. Brandon Newman had Marceline’s top score at 90, while Jordan Elam and Mackenzie Fessler of the Tigers both shot 93, while Caden Wilson of Albany and Tanner Sims of Marceline both shot 95, Jeffrey Hamilton of Marceline 96, Nicholas Hartley of Hamilton 97, Cole Craig of Stanberry 99, Quinn Brown and Caden Brown of Hamilton both at 100, Grant Taylor of South Harrison 103, Austin Sweiger of Maysville 104, and Davis Washburn of King City at 114.
The Class 1 state tournament was shortened to just one day after rain washed out Monday’s scheduled first day of the event. MSHSAA officials, on Monday night, made the decision to make Tuesday’s 18-hole event a one day event to decide the state championship.
