The Class 1, District 3 girls golf tournament was contested at the Green Hills Golf Course in Chillicothe on Thursday, with the district champion from Northeast High School of Cairo, Missouri and the runner-up Gallatin Lady Bulldogs advancing their squads to the state tournament in Columbia. Cairo’s winning score was 442 with Gallatin at 455. Marceline was third (471), Brookfield fourth (484), and South Harrison fifth (485). Trenton was sixth at 516.
Elle Copple of Gallatin won the individual district championship by one stroke over teammate Courtney Crose, with Copple at 20 over par 92 and Crose shooting 93. Abbie Koenen of Putnam County was third place at 84, Abby Owens of South Harrison fourth place at 97, and Tess Sheerman of Marceline in fifth place at 98.
The cut line for advancing to state turned out to be 120, with those shooting better than that mark advancing to Columbia. Those at 120 and above saw their seasons end. Jada Taylor of Marceline shot 106, Tina-Avalon’s Maggie Brockmeier 110, Brookfield’s Maggie Bennett at 113, Trenton’s Eliana Cowling 116, Brookfield’s Kamdyn Dixon 117, Trenton’s Reece Weldon 117, Hamilton’s Izzy Potts 119, and North Harrison’s Stella Rinehart 119.
