The Kansas City Chiefs appeared to secure an unexpected victory against the Buffalo Bills with a daring play, only for the elation in Arrowhead Stadium to turn into discontent as a penalty nullified the outcome.

After the Bills took the lead with Tyler Bass’ field goal and 1:54 remaining, Patrick Mahomes led the Chiefs across midfield. In a unconventional play, Mahomes threw to favorite target Travis Kelce, who then passed to Kadarius Toney for a 49-yard touchdown catch. However, the play was flagged due to Toney lining up offside.

Despite the setback, the Chiefs had three attempts to salvage the game, but Mahomes threw incomplete on all three plays. The Bills secured a crucial 20-17 victory, leaving the Chiefs frustrated with officiating for the second consecutive week.

Last week, the Chiefs were aggrieved by the absence of a pass interference call in a loss to the Packers. Coach Andy Reid, usually composed, expressed frustration over the offside call, emphasizing the rarity of such an incident.

Even Bills quarterback Josh Allen was surprised by the flag, saying, “I originally thought it was on us. It’s not a flag they usually call.”

The night continued to unravel for the Chiefs, with tiles falling from the ceiling during defensive tackle Chris Jones’ post-game interview. The defeat marked the Chiefs’ fourth loss in their last six games, highlighting ongoing challenges with turnovers and penalties.

Reid acknowledged defensive improvements but lamented the missed opportunities: “Defensively, I thought we played well. Offensively, we were getting better. The second half was a little bit better, so we’re actually making progress through this. That’s what is disappointing about all of this.”
