Former University of Missouri guard Anton Brookshire has announced a transfer to Iona University, joining Coach Rick Pitino after just one season at Mizzou.

Brookshire, a native of Springfield, Missouri, did start three games at Missouri in his freshman season, but averaged only 1.5 points per game, and struggled from the field on 27% shooting.  He did lead the Tigers from the free throw line with 83% accuracy.

Pitino has spent the last two seasons at Iona, winning 37 of 51 games and reaching the NCAA Tournament in 2021.

The roster for Dennis Gates’ first season at Missouri continues to take shape, with a second preferred walk-on, former Cleveland State guard Ben Sternberg, announcing he is following Gates to MU, joining former Viking teammates Tre Gomillion and D’Moi Hodge with that decision.  Sternberg joins Jackson Francois, the son of athletic director Desiree Reed-Francois, as walk-on’s for the 2022-2023 Tigers.  Missouri still holds two open scholarship spots for next season.

Meanwhile, Coach Gates has announced the remaining members of his inaugural coaching staff at Missouri.  Michael Fly has joined the staff as director of scouting and analysis, Ryan Sharbaugh as assistant to head coach, Matt Cline as chief of staff, Chase Goldstein as director of basketball operations, Sean Conaty as director of basketball athletic performance, Dalon King as scouting coordinator, and Perin Foote as player development coordinator.
