According to reports from KRON4’s Phil Mayer, former University of Missouri football player Aldon Smith will be serving 12 months in prison, stemming from an incident involving a DUI from 2021.

Smith entered the NFL in 2011 as the 7th overall selection of the draft by the San Francisco 49ers, and despite quickly showing on-the-field defensive brilliance, he would find off-the-field difficulties, many involving driving under the influence, and a 2018 arrest for domestic violence.

In the most recent incident involving Smith, he reportedly rear-ended a truck on December 6, 2021 in San Mateo County, California.  He refused a field sobriety test from the California Highway Patrol, and was later found to have a blood-alcohol level of .288, well above the state’s legal limit of .08.

Smith, in addition to the 12 months in prison, will pay $41,800 in total damages, and was handed five years of supervised probation.
