Former Kansas City Chiefs coach Marty Schottenheimer has been moved into a hospice facility near Charlotte, North Carolina, according to information received by ESPN’s Chris Mortensen from the Schottenheimer family.
Marty, the head coach of the Chiefs from 1989 to 1998, was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease in 2014. He is, according to the family statement, in stable condition due to complications from the disease.
In a decade with Kansas City, Schottenheimer’s Chiefs had a very successful run that included a record of 101-58-1 in the regular season, but just 3-7 in playoff games. The best run for the team was with Hall of Fame quarterback Joe Montana in 1993, when KC reached the AFC Championship Game before losing to the Buffalo Bills in Orchard Park, New York.
