The Polo Panthers, courtesy of a three-pointer at the regulation buzzer by James Fleener, overtook the Mound City Panthers on Monday night, winning 47-46 in the quarterfinals of the North Platte Tournament in Dearborn.
The victory moves Polo into an 8:15 semifinal on Thursday night, potentially against the top-seeded, Class 2 #2 ranked Mid-Buchanan Dragons (who play West Platte at 5:45 tonight).
On the bottom half of the boys bracket, the Jefferson Eagles beat the host North Platte Panthers, 64-44, pushing Jefferson into a 5:45 semifinal on Thursday evening.
The Jefferson girls used defense to grind out a 41-18 Monday night win over Polo, while the Mound City Lady Panthers, seeded #3 in the North Platte event, beat the North Platte Lady Panthers, 42-28.
In Tuesday night quarterfinal action, the Mid-Buchanan girls play West Platte at 4:30, followed by the Mid-Buch/West Platte boys game at 5:45. At 7 o’clock, the Plattsburg Lady Tigers play Northland Christian, with the Plattsburg girls (seeded #2) taking on Northland Christian to finish up the night at 8:15.
