Assuming there is a 2020 high school football in the middle of the coronavirus pandemic, the eight-man level continues to show growth, particularly in the northern reaches of the Show-Me State.
One of the additions to 8-man was done out of necessity, as a string of sub-par seasons at Schuyler County High School had an adverse effect on numbers within the program, forcing the Lewis and Clark Conference school to make the move to 8-man this fall. The Rams will remain a member of the L&C in other sports, but go independent in football.
The Rams schedule will include Grand River Conference members Pattonsburg, Worth County, and North Andrew, in addition to long-time conference rival, going back to the Tri-Rivers days, in North Shelby.
Two small school districts in Keytesville and Northwestern will join forces as an 8-man football cooperative in 2020, with a familiar face leading the team on the sidelines, as former Gallatin High School football coach Kevin Gundy will lead K-N. The first game for the state’s newest program is slated for August 28th against Schuyler County.
