The East Harrison (Cainsville and Ridgeway co-op) Lady Bobcats claimed victories over Tri-County and Gilman City on Saturday to win the annual HDC Conference softball tournament in Bethany.
The event was contested at two adjacent locations in Bethany, with Tri-County and Mercer playing in the opening round game at Memorial Park. The fourth-seeded Lady Mustangs eliminated the Lady Cardinals by a score of 13-3, avenging a 19-17 loss from Thursday night to Mercer.
The win advanced Tri-County into the semifinal round at Memorial Park against top-seeded East Harrison, with the Lady Bobcats holding on for a 3-2 win against the spunky Lady Mustangs, sending East Harrison into the final, and dropping Tri-County into the third place game.
In Saturday’s second semifinal, played at Lynch Field, the second-seeded Gilman City Ladyhawks rolled to a 18-3 win over Grundy R-V, pushing Gilman City into the early afternoon championship game.
In the third place game at Lynch Field, Tri-County outlasted Grundy R-V by a score of 9-7, with East Harrison rolling to a 10-4 triumph over Gilman City in the title showdown.
