Dry weather allows district tournaments to wrap up Monday night

Numerous district champions were crowned on the area’s softball diamonds on Monday night, particularly in Class 1, with last week’s wet weather giving way to drier conditions.

The four district champions in northwest Missouri’s Class 1 “quadrant” will be the Eagles of Platte Valley, the Shamrocks from North Harrison, the Wolverines of Maysville High School, and the Pirates from Norborne High School.

Gallatin, having won the District 12 title on Friday night in Green City, learned its Class 1 sectional opponent, as the Lady Bulldogs will travel to Canton, Missouri on Wednesday to take on the District 11 champion Lady Tigers.

In the District 16 title game in Stanberry, Platte Valley (the Jefferson / South Nodaway co-op) dominated North Andrew, winning 9-0, sending the Lady Eagles to Eagleville on Wednesday night, where the HDC Champion North Harrison Shamrocks will host a Class 1 sectional.  The Shamrocks beat the host Albany Lady Warriors in the District 15 final, 3-0.

In the District 14 title game, Maysville scored a run in the bottom of the 7th inning to beat the DeKalb Lady Tigers, 2-1.  Maysville, on Wednesday night, will travel to Norborne to play the Lady Pirates, a 3-1 winner over Polo for the District 13 title.

The Penney Lady Hornets, champions of District 15, will host the Macon Tigerettes on Wednesday night, after Macon beat the #1 seeded Marceline Lady Tigers, 4-3 in nine innings, in the Class 2, District 16 championship game, played Monday night in Macon.

Making another trip to the Class 2 playoffs are the Lathrop Lady Mules, a 5-2 winner over rival Plattsburg in the District 14 championship, played on Monday night at Lawson High School.  Lathrop will play at Knob Noster to open the playoffs on Wednesday night.

The Class 3, District 16 tournament finished in St. Joseph on Monday night.  In the semifinals, Lafayette shutout Savannah 2-0, while Cameron beat St. Joseph Benton 10-8.  In the championship game, Lafayette took down the Lady Dragons of Cameron, winning 5-0.
